When I go to Start --> Run and type in msconfig, the computer can't find it. Could that be the source of my problems with my email (AOL freezing up on me, both the installed version and the webmail)? I was out of town for 3 months and God only knows what my kids did to my computer while I was gone.

I use Start-up Inspector [http://www.windowsstartup.com/startupinspector.php] and Start-up List Index [http://www.castlecops.com/StartupList.html] to manage the start up programs on my XP computer.

Nice article. Will give ATF and StartUpLite a go.

A nifty little tool i find very useful, is StartupLite. It recognizes all windows components and leaves only those programs not needed for windows to start. Ready for you to decide which to keep or not. Most security programs won't be shown either. Its an portable application, so no install needed.
You can get the tool at http://www.malwarebytes.org/startuplite.php
